Larry Coe, 73, of Abilene, TX, passed away at his home surrounded by his children, on June 19, 2021.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd, in Abilene, TX.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 24 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, TX, with Rick Wilson and the Rev. Brett W. Coe officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Larry was born in Gadsden, Alabama to William Noah and Vera Mae (Baugh) Coe on July 27, 1947. He was a 1965 graduate of Lancaster High School and a 1970 graduate of McMurry College. He married Paula Burk on September 5, 1970, in Stamford, Texas. He worked as a coach, teacher, and administrator in the Abilene Independent School District for 37 years at Lincoln Jr. High and the AISD Reassignment Center / Travis Opportunity Center, as well as teaching countless teenagers how to drive.  Larry officiated football, basketball, track and field, including 48 years as an official and starter at the UIL State Track and Field Championships, and served on various boards for the Texas Association of Sports Officials.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, and a brother, Michael Coe.

Larry is survived by his son, Brett, and wife Julie, of Amarillo, TX; daughter, Laura Coe Ruybal, of Abilene, TX; and daughter, Melissa Coe Allen, and husband Clint, of Sweetwater, TX; seven grandchildren, Lisette, Blake, Christyn, Kimy, Christopher, Caden, and Hunter; three great-grandchildren, Melanie, Jasper, and Justice; a sister, Brenda Mashburn, and husband Lloyd, of Clyde, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mike Akens, Clint Allen, Blake Coe, Mike McAuliffe, David Todd, and Brett Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Caden Allen, Christopher Ruybal, and Hunter Ruybal.

Memorials may be given to the charity of the giver’s choosing.
