Wancele Pritchett

Wancele Young Pritchett, age 95, of Abilene, passed away May 30, 2022. A service honoring Wancele’s life will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, June 2 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.

Wancele was born on April 24, 1927, to William and Jewel Young in Abilene. She attended Abilene High School and was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring after 39 years of service as a Service Manager working in Abilene, Odessa, Midland, and Corpus Christi. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, life member of the Bible Sigma Phi Sorority, Abilene Alliance, Grace Museum, and Creative Art Club.

Wancele married Roy Pritchett on November 22, 1946 and they were married for 70 years and 10 months. They had one son, Gary Brooks.

Wancele loved to fish, entertain friends at Lake Cisco, oil paint, do crafts, and most of all play with her little Pekinese dog, Honey-B.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband. Survivors include son Gary Brooks, six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
