Virginia K. Martin Wright

Virginia Martin Wright, age 100, widow of prominent Abilene banker and civic leader John A. Wright, passed away May 26, 2023 in College Station Texas. 

There will be an inurnment at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 17, 2023, in the Columbarium at The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander St. Abilene.  

Mrs. Wright was born in Rotan, Texas May 28, 1922 and was the only daughter of Jack and Aileen Polk Kennedy.  She graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 1942. She moved to Abilene in 1960.

Virginia was preceded in death by her brother, Jack H. Kennedy, Jr; and her two sons David and Peter Martin.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Ouida Jo Garner and her husband Thomas Garner, of Arlington; and stepson, John A. Wright II, and his wife, Peggy, of Clyde.  She has eight grandchildren; Amy Rieder, Ashley Thompson, and Austin Wright; Katherine Chapman and Robert Martin; Tracey Huesinkveld; and John and Peter K Martin II. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
