Vernon D. Peters

Vernon D. Peters, 80, of Abilene, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022, in Anson.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2022, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 15, 2022, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home chapel with Pastor David Cason officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Iberis Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Vernon was born in Los Angeles, California to Preston and Dorothy (Van Laar) Peters on February 26, 1942. He was a retired aircraft maintenance superintendent in the U.S. Air Force, having served for over 22 years. He also retired from civil service as a butcher at Dyess AFB Commissary after 18 years. He was very proud of his service and loved his country.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Kathy Peters, sister, Debbie Wood and great-grandson, Joseph Corsello.

Vernon is survived by his wife Ann Peters of Abilene; sons, Daniel Peters and wife Carol of Anson, Michael Peters and wife Priscilla of Abilene and daughter, Darlene D’Avanzo and husband Nick of Hurst; brother, Richard Peters and wife Dianne of California. He also had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.

Pallbearers will be Justin Chandler, Nick D’Avanzo, Bubba Garza, Jeff Norwood, Jonathan Peters and Coy Sanchez.
