Tom Harvey

Tom Harvey, 74, of Potosi, Texas passed away on October 31st, 2014 in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held on November 15th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Rev. Charles Dunnam of Potosi United Methodist Church officiating. Tom was born in Kenton, Ohio to Madeline and Louis Harvey on November 9th, 1939. He grew up and graduated from high school in Kenton, Ohio. He joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at the Strategic Air Command radar base in Pickstown, South Dakota where he met and later married Judy Janda on June 18th, 1963. He was later stationed with the 931st Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron at the P-Mountain radar site in Thule, Greenland. After leaving the Air Force he joined IBM living in both Dallas, Texas and Endicott, New York before eventually transferring to Abilene, Texas in 1974. Tom left IBM to work for and eventually become a partner in Computech in Abilene. In 1997 Tom and Judy built The Store at Potosi which they owned and operated until 2008. Tom and Judy have called Abilene home for 40 years. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Louis Harvey and Madeline Kohler, his brother Joe Harvey as well as his oldest son David Harvey. Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Harvey of Abilene, Texas; son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters Greg, Jennifer, Merideth and Madeline Harvey of Alvarado, Texas; oldest brother and sister-in-law James and Sue Harvey of Kenton, Ohio; sister-in-law Connie Harvey of Kenton, Ohio; sister-in-law Patricia Westerhuis of Platte, South Dakota as well as five nephews and eight nieces. Memorials and donations may be given in lieu of flowers to the Cancer Services Network, P.O. Box 2026, Abilene, Texas 79604. The family of Tom Harvey wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to the caregivers and physicians of Hendrick Medical Center and Hendrick Hospice Care for their compassionate medical care, to Potosi United Methodist Church, the community of Potosi and especially to the multitude of lifelong friends and family that they have laughed and cried with throughout Tom’s journey.
