Stephen Duane Ganus, 75, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on September 5, 2024, in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.
Funeral services were held on September 8, 2024 at Santa Maria de Guadalupe Catholic Church in San Felipe with Father Isaac Resendez Hernandez officiating.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at the Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery at Abilene on October 3, 2024 at 1:00pm. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road
Stephen (Steve) was born in Slaton, Texas, to Vera Blanche Dodd and William Brian Ganus on December 9, 1948. He attended Slaton High School, graduating in 1967. He married Joyce Kitten on October 22, 1971, in Slaton, and they had two sons, Dale Frank and Keith Ryan. He married Lois Kerschen on March 14, 1992 in Slaton. He worked mostly in the oil and gas industry, then in environmental remediation, retiring in 2012 to Mexico.
Steve was a veteran who served in the US Army from 1967-70, achieving the rank of SP-5. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Sharpshooter M-14 Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
At various times, he was a member of the Elks and the Rotary. He served as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 157 and as President of the High School Swim Team Booster Club in Lubbock. In later years, he served as an usher and fundraiser for his church in San Felipe.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill Ganus (Jane Sanford). He is survived by his wife Lois Kerschen, sons Dale (Karen) Ganus and Keith Ganus, step-daughter Sally Jane Kerschen-Sheppard, granddaughters Amanda (Colin) Ganus, Brittney Ganus, Meagan (Andres) Flores, Abigail Ganus, Madison Ganus, and Emmie Ganus, and nephew Brian Ganus.
