Obituary

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Shirley Rae Thompson, who left us peacefully on June 12, 2026.

Shirley will be remembered for her sense of humor, her bird calls, stories about growing up with a humble life in a small town, times with her cousins, her Indian motorcycle, and at 5'2", getting to play basketball for Wylie High School.

She loved time with her family, travel, and taking more money from Vegas than her travel mates, and animals, especially dogs. Most of all she loved and trusted Jesus.

Shirley was born in Buffalo Gap Texas to John and Gladys Seaborn in December of 1942, the youngest of 3 children. She grew up there and graduated from Wylie High School. Shirley met the love of her life, Randy Thompson, in Abilene and they married in 1960, celebrating 61 years together before his passing. They were blessed with 2 children, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren and counting.

After graduation, Shirley worked for many years at Timex in Abilene, and later as an assistant in a local doctor's office. She volunteered with Human Services, helping with home checks for the elderly, and volunteered time to help maintain the beauty of the Buffalo Gap Cemetery. She also volunteered with A View of Texas Mural, helping create and paint the mural for Alexis Pointe Senior Living in Wimberley, Texas. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Abilene and enjoyed many friendships and fellowship there. Shirley moved from Abilene to Wimberley Texas in 2021 to be closer to her family and has had several years to share meals, games, and stories, often attending First Baptist Church Wimberley with her family and Bingo night at the VFW.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, John and Joe Seaborn, as well as her husband, Randy.

Shirley leaves beautiful memories behind, and to carry on her legacy she leaves her son, Rick Thompson, and her daughter, Karen Boyle with her husband, John Boyle. Shirley is also survived by her many grandchildren, Chris Boyle with his wife Marli, Gregory Boyle with his wife Haley, Miller Boyle with his wife Claire, Colby Boyle with his wife Olivia, John Boyle Jr, Jackson Boyle, Lauren Boyle, Waylon Thompson, Leila Dence with her husband Jordan, Rebekah Thompson, and Hannah Thompson. Shirley's great grandchildren were also treasured by her. They include Evelyn Boyle, Robert Boyle, Rose Boyle, Benjamin Boyle and Leo Boyle.

A visitation for Shirley is scheduled for Saturday June 20th from 5:00-7:00 at Hamil Family Funeral Home in Abilene. A graveside service will be held on Sunday June 21, 2026, at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery at 10:00am.
