Obituary

Shirley Ann Mize Roach passed away July 17, 2026, in Abilene, TX.

Memorial Services celebrating her life will be held Friday July 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.at Pioneer Baptist Church in Abilene with pastor Jeff Reid officiating the service.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX.

Born February 12, 1936, in Roscoe, TX., she was the youngest of three children born to the late Rufus E. Mize and Mathilda Roemisch Mize.

She married William (Bill) H. Roach, November 22, 1956, in Abilene, TX, and started a family, daughters Sherry and Melinda.

Shirley worked at Dyess Air Force Base from 1965, as a secretary advancing to the base commanders secretary until her retirement in June of 1997. She received numerous awards for Achievement, Performance, and Appreciation.

She loved being with her family, traveling, attending concerts and was always willing to host family get-togethers.

She was a devoted Christian, loved Jesus and her church family.

She loved singing and sang with the Sweet Adelines and the Celebration Singers for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, William (Bill) Roach, her parents Rufus and Mathilda Mize, her sister Evelyn Mize Scott, brother Kenneth Mize, sister-in-law Nell Mize and nephew Tommy Mize.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Matthews, husband David, Melinda Corbell, husband Casey, three grandchildren Jennifer Campbell (James), Jeremy Corbell and Brian Corbell (Pam), six great grandchildren Arrielle, Skye, Aerilyn, Dallas, Natalie and Jayce, two very special nieces Merry Ann Byrd and Sharon Smith, and lots of great nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Alan Schultz and staff, the therapists and nurses of Enhabit Home Health and the nurses at Hendricks Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother.
