Shirley Worley Haile 86, of Abilene, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
Born in Tyler, Texas on June 4, 1935, Shirley was the daughter of Edmond and Vivian Worley. She retired from Lone Star Gas many years ago. Shirley had a twinkle in her eye every time she saw her next-door neighbor, Albert. While he was serving in the Army overseas, she wrote him letters even though they had never met. After returning from the service Albert and Shirley officially met, fell in love, and married on June 25, 1955. They were married 62 years at the time of Albert's death in 2018. Shirley was always involved with church activities, Girl Scouts and loved to read. In earlier years family and friends loved to gather and feast on Shirley’s famous enchiladas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert F. Haile, Jr., her parents, great-grandson Rhett Ford Buzan, and cousin Carl Saurber.
Shirley is survived by her four children, Wesley Haile and wife Donna of McKinney, Texas, Brenda Haile, Roy Haile and wife Sharee, and Michelle Haile all of Abilene. Survivors also include five grandchildren, Mindi Carmichael (Chris), Jennifer Buzan (Scott), Cody Haile (Jessica), Tyler Haile (Katee) and Micah Haile; nine great-grandchildren, Grayson Buzan, Olivia Carmichael, Caitlyn Carmichael, Brooks Buzan, Ella Grace Haile, Charlie Haile, Reese Haile, Asher Buzan and arriving soon Logan Carmichael. She is also survived by special cousin Sybil Saurber.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 30, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Rake officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
