Ruby Watts

Ruby Watts, 92 died Saturday, August 20, 2005 in Abilene. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 22, 2005 at 2:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in the Hamby Cemetery. Ruby was born December 1, 1912 in Callahan County to Henry Ellis Clemmer and Bessie Moore Clemmer. She married Austin Watts July 29, 1928. They were married 73 years. Ruby was employed for 23 years in sales and buying at Minter's Department Store, downtown Abilene. In here career and in her life, she was especially fond of following the achievements of the people she encountered along the way. She was keenly interested in families and young men of various Boy Scout Troops whose lives touched hers through years of Boy Scout Uniform purchases from Minter's. Ruby was a lifelong member of Hamby Baptist Church. In more recent years, she enjoyed activities and time spent with fellow "Keen-Agers" of Hamby Baptist Church. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 2012 for over 50 years. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Bert Clemmer; two sisters, Alvie Brannon and Dema Watts. She is survived by a sister, Thelma Hall, of Hamby, and two sisters-in-law, Ola Pruitt of Abilene, and Elsie Novak of Saginaw, Michigan. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and family members who will miss "Aunt Ruby's" unique sense of humor and sharp wit. Her great-nephews will serve as pallbearers.
