Ruby Jo Day, 102, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on September 11, 2025.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday September 20, 2025 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Dr. Russell Miller of St. Paul United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Ruby Jo was born in Loraine, TX. to John and Josephine (Robertson) Marshall on December 20, 1922. She met her husband, William Kenneth Day, while they were attending McMurry College. They married on March 14, 1944, just before Kenneth went overseas to fight in WWII. Ruby Jo then went home to Loraine and had their first child, Wayne, while her husband was fighting over Europe.
After Kenneth returned from the war, he became a pilot for Eastern Airline and they lived in New Orleans and Ruby Jo had their daughter, Marsha Jane there. In 1950 they moved to Houston. Kenneth went to medical school and Ruby Jo taught school. Following Medical school, the family moved back to Abilene where Kenneth practiced medicine and Ruby Jo became a full-time homemaker.
Ruby Jo was above all a devoted mother and wife. She was a master at needlepoint. She loved her home, family, community, and St Paul United Methodist Church. Ruby Jo ’s strength, courage and faith carried her through difficult times including the deaths of her husband and their two children. She will always be a model of that strength, courage, and faith for those who knew and loved her.
Ruby Jo was preceded in death by her husband, William Kenneth Day, her children, Wayne and Marsha Jane Day and her parents, John and Josephine Marshall. Ruby Jo is survived by daughter-in law, Marta Day of Horseshoe Bay, TX; her grandchildren, Joanna Day and Matthew Day; great grandchildren, Conner Day, Charlie, Luke and Rose Morehead. And Marsha Jane’s loving partner Gillian Frances of New York City.
