Rosemarie Flores, 83, of Abilene, passed away on November 18, 2025, in Abilene.
Rosary and Visitation will be 5-7pm, Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Hamil Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Monday, November 24, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Fred Nawarskas, officiating. Burial will be at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Rosemarie was born in Brooklyn, NY to Jasper and Josephine Grassa on December 9, 1941. Family was always important growing up. Many weekends were spent visiting grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She graduated from Babylon High School. After high school, Rosemarie worked for 10 years as a secretary for AT&T in New York City. At Christmas, Rosemarie would take her younger sister Chris into the city to look at the store fronts and visit FAO Schwarts and Rockefeller Center. During that time Rosemarie was a world traveler. She visited Many countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia. While on a trip to Taiwan, she met Adam while he was on R&R from service in Vietnam.
Rosemarie married Adam Flores on September 11, 1969, in Babylon, NY, and were married 45 years before Adam’s passing. They spent three years at Fort Dix, New Jersey where they had two children. When Adam retired from the Army, the family moved to Merritt Island, Florida to be closer to Rosemarie’s sister Fran. Rosemarie and Adam lived in Merritt Island for 27 years before following their grandchild to Navarre, Florida. Rosemarie held many leadership positions in the Lioness and Lions Club. During the 70’s, Rosemarie started a finger printing program for Brevard County students. Finger printing kits were purchased with donations from the Lioness Club. Rosemarie coordinated the training of Lioness Club members with local police and set up finger printing in the mall.
Rosemarie and Adam moved to Abilene, Texas, in 2007, where she was involved with the Garden Club, Holy Family Catholic Church, and West Texas Rehab. Rosemarie loved being involved in the Garden Club. As President, Rosemarie, was instrumental in hosting the state convention in Abilene and putting together a Garden Club cookbook. At Holy Family, she taught Religious Education classes for third grade. Students loved her homemade snacks after class. After the passing of her husband, Rosemarie started a group for single people over 60. Through this group she met Penny, a great friend who was always ready to help, especially as her health was deteriorating. Rosemarie’s favorite church group was lunch with the fun bunch. A good time and great laughs were had visiting different restaurants every month. She also volunteered with West Texas Rehab’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program. As a volunteer, Rosemarie and her partner in crime Angie, spent many a laugh over stuffing envelopes in the office. Their favorite was getting to usher for the ACU theater program. They enjoyed getting to watch the shows after collecting tickets.
Rosemarie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter April Galvan.
Rosemarie is survived by her daughters Diana (Roger) Hall, Eva Foster, Brenda (Joe) Galvan, Belenda (Cliff) Garza. Sisters Fran Friesen and Chris (Charles) Miller. Ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Hall, Roger Hall, Joe Galvan, Cliff Garza, Joe Adam Galvan, and Mike Miller
Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Big Country or your favorite service agency. The family of Rosemarie wishes to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hospice of the Big Country for making sure Rosemarie lived with dignity until the end. The family also thanks the staff at Lyndale Memory Care and Wesley Court for taking care of Rosemarie over the last few years. Finally, thank you to Holy Family volunteers for making sure Rosemarie received communion when she could no longer make it to church.
