Ronnie C. Kidd, 67, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on March 20, 2026 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas 79606. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Honorary pallbearers will be Vance Cooksey, Roger Gibbs, Mark Hunt, Kyle Keeter, Henry Loza, Gary Michalek, Randall Reedy and David Smauley.
Ronnie was born in Abilene, Texas to Charles and Natha Kidd on January 31, 1959. He went to school in Abilene and graduated from Cooper High School in 1977 and then graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Ronnie married Sheila Smauley of Baird, Texas on September 19, 1987.
After graduating from HSU, Ronnie worked in accounting, financial, and management services for several organizations from 1981 through 1999. Ronnie then became the Managing Director for the City of Abilene from which he retired in 2017 after approximately 18 years of service. After retirement from the City, Ronnie took a job as CEO of The Food Bank of West Central Texas, from which he retired in 2025. While at the Food Bank, Ronnie oversaw a major capital renovation of the Food Bank, including onsite food pantries, educational rooms, and areas for community gatherings.
In addition to his full-time employment, Ronnie also served as Celebration Choir Director and other additional positions for Holy Family Catholic church from 2001 until the time of his death.
Ronnie was a member of Alpha Phi Omega and multiple other organizations at Hardin Simmons and continued to be an active alumnus for HSU through various alumni associations. Ronnie was also a member of many business associations, including Leadership Abilene, United Way of Abilene, and Texas Municipal Human Resources Association.
Ronnie loved his family and friends, his church, and his colleagues, and enjoyed travel to various destinations, his favorite destination being the Hawaiian Islands.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Natha Kidd, and his sister, Resa Kidd Reedy.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Sheila, his son, Riley Kidd (partner Josh Pope), his son, Kirby Kidd (wife Sierra), his sister, Rebecca Michalek (husband Gary), his brother-in-law, Randall Reedy, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be given to (i) The Food Bank of West Central Texas, 5505 N. 1st Street, Abilene, TX 79603, (ii) the Kidd Family.
