Obituary

Ronna Ann Harrell, 81, of Abilene, Texas, passed away at home on October 17, 2026, from natural causes.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, with Jeff Reid of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church officiating. Both services will be held at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, under their direction. Burial will follow at Iberis Cemetery.

Ronna was born on March 24, 1945, in Shamrock, Texas, to James and Fleeta Little. Shortly after, the family moved to Mooresville, North Carolina, and then moved to Abilene in 1958. As a majorette at Cooper High School, Ronna was proud to be part of the school's first graduating class in 1963. While attending Hardin-Simmons University, she worked in the pathology lab at Hendrick Hospital and earned a biology degree from Hardin-Simmons in 1967. Ronna then returned to Cooper to teach biology and made a lasting impact on her students. To this day, many of them credit her with inspiring them to enter the medical field. In 1972, she married Ronald J. "Ron" Harrell in Abilene, where they raised their children, Lezli and Jason.

For almost 50 years, Ronna was a successful Abilene real estate agent and broker, working with Olympia Realty, RE/MAX, Coldwell Banker, and Hallmark Real Estate Services. She served as president of the Abilene Board of Realtors and earned Realtor of the Year in 1989. Active in the community, Ronna also held several leadership roles in the Junior League of Abilene and was involved with Leadership Abilene.

Always up for adventure, she loved water skiing on Lake LBJ, horseback riding and motorcycling at the Baca Ranch in New Mexico, canoe trips, and playing tennis with friends. As her kids' biggest cheerleader, she drove all over Texas to Lezli's tennis tournaments, kept score at Jason's Dixie Little League baseball games, and never missed a Friday night Cooper football game. Whether helping with school projects or leading Brownie troops, she was always involved, and she made their home a place where her kids' friends loved to gather.

Her grandchildren, Hannah and Henry Harrell, were her pride and joy, and she never missed a chance to brag about them. She cherished her time with them during holidays, summer visits, graduations, birthdays, and family trips.

Ronna's steadfast faith sustained her through life's greatest joys and deepest sorrows. A member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, she found strength in God and now rests in His peace.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jason Chad Harrell; her parents, James and Fleeta Little; and her parents-in-law, Joe and Marie Harrell.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, Ron Harrell of Abilene; daughter Lezli Harrell and Cole Erwin of Austin; granddaughter Hannah Harrell of New York; grandson Henry Harrell of Highland Village; brother Tim Little and his wife, Maxanne, of Burnet; brother Jimmy Little of Garland; sister-in-law Debbie Yarger of Mabank; nieces Whitney Little Bell, Kelsey Little, Kim Robinson, Abby Misegades, and Katy Wilgus; nephews Brady Little, Brad Little, and Colin Little; and many cousins, family, and friends.

Pallbearers include Chad Bolls, Rob Cunningham, Ken Hogan, Jerry McAlister, Ted Spears, and Russ Webb.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Ronna wanted to help bring hope to those affected by suicide and mental illness. https://bit.ly/3VI7z47
