Roger Mac Evans

d. December 23, 2020

Roger Mac Evans, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Roger was born on August 13, 1940 in Abilene, Texas to Murray C. Evans and Ila Mae (Johnson). He was proud to be known as one of the players on the 1956-57 Abilene High School State Baseball Championship team before graduating in1958. He continued his baseball career at Texas Tech where he earned his marketing degree in 1963. During this time he married the love of his life, Reta Kay McCraw on October 15, 1960. They had two sons, Roger Michael and Robert Lance. Using his marketing degree, Roger was fortunate enough to have a career in sales which took him all over Texas. He had a love for gardening, antiquing, and searching out unique diners and restaurants. Upon returning to Abilene, Roger and Kay enjoyed their time with their dinner crew and birthday bunch. He took the most pride in spoiling his granddaughter, Chelsea, who she lovingly called her “Big Mac”. Survivors include his sons, Mike (Shellye) of Boise Idaho and Lance (Tina) of Midland; grandchildren: Chad (Lindsey), Chelsea, Reece, Grayson, and Brady. He is also survived by one brother Bruce (Kim) of Boerne, niece Katie (Justin), nephew Josh (Emily), two great grandchildren, one great niece, and two great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, and parents. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Wisteria Place for being there for “Big Mac” and taking such good care of him when they could not. Due to COVID, there will be no services, however the family would love for you to share any memories of Roger online through the Hamil Family Funeral Home website. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association, Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
