Robert (Bob) Hutchins, 93, of Abilene Texas, passed away on January 27th. He was much loved by his family and friends. Trooper Bob, as his friends and family called him, will be missed.
A Viewing will be 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, February 10th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mathew Killough of First Baptist Church of Sonora officiating, assisted by Pastor Joe Grizzle of North Park Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Born in Abilene Texas to Jack and Maybell Hutchins, November 26, 1932. He graduated from Abilene High School. He married June Boyd on August 29, 1952, in Abilene. Bob was also a longtime member of North Park Baptist church.
He served in the Navy, worked as a State Trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Safety and Personnel Director for Oil Transport Company, and a Municipal Judge. In his retirement, Bob became an accomplished carpenter and folk artist. He was the father to three children, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife June, and his sister Verina Braune.
Bob is survived by his wife Delora Hutchins, Children: Chuck Hutchins and his wife Brenda, Chris Close and her husband Todd and Beverly Lindquist, grandchildren: Ashley Reeves, Amber Killough, Aaron Martin, Cody Close, Caley Close, and great-grandchildren: Olivia, Wyatt, Cassidy, Luna and Kai, and by his many friends.
He is also survived by Delora's daughter Darla Johnson and her husband Randall and son Brent Morris and his wife Dede, two step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be State Troopers of the Texas Department of public Safety.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Hendrick Medical Center North for their attention and professional care as they made the last days of his life more comfortable.
