Robbie Jo Shewmake Gholson, 102, of Abilene, passed away on July 6, 2025 in Abilene, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, July, 9 at Southside Baptist Church, with Chaplain Bobby Towel, of Interim Hospice of Abilene, officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Robbie was born in Haskell, Texas to Lynn and Beulah Toliver on November 11, 1922. She attended Haskell High School before graduating from Graford High School where she met and eventually married her first husband, Arthur Lee “Jiggs” Shewmake, on December 22, 1941. She worked as a phone operator for AT&T, as an assistant for Dr. Jack Estes, and then finished her career working alongside her husband at L.B. Price Mercantile Company. Robbie was preceded in death by “Jiggs” in April 1978.
In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering, staying active by square dancing with the Country Cousins and socializing with friends. During a high school reunion, she reunited with a former high school classmate, Buster Frederick Gholson, whom she married on December 14, 1990. They enjoyed traveling and being active members of Southside Baptist Church.
Robbie was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, her parents, three sisters, Dot Hartsfield, Pat Sammons, and Lila Virginia Toliver, three brothers, Owen Henry, Morris, and C.L. Jr Toliver.
Robbie is survived by her daughter, Nancy Casey, husband Bill of Abilene; son, Craig Shewmake, wife Roberta of Abilene; step-daughter, Becky Brazzel, husband Rick of Idaho; step-son, Mike Gholson, wife Sandy of Athens; sister, Jeffie Clifton of Oklahoma City; grandson, Matt Casey; granddaughter, Lee Ann Watkins, husband Matt; grandson, Jeff Casey, wife Nichole; granddaughter Megan Sweet, husband John; great-grandchildren Dean and Audrey Watkins, Jayden and Justin Palacios, Kennedy and Lily Casey, Clara and Royce Sweet. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, and friends that she loved very dearly.
Pallbearers will be Matt Watkins, John Sweet, Jayden Palacios, Justin Palacios, Dean Watkins, and Brian Casey.
Memorials may be given to West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
