Rita Joyce Turkett

Rita Henrickson Turkett, 84, of Abilene, TX passed away on September 18, 2026, in Abilene, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 25, 2026, at The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene, TX with David Romanik officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Rita was born in Abilene on April 22, 1942, to Harry Edward and Ruth Henrickson. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1960 and went on to attend Texas Christian University and McMurry College.

Rita married Jim Turkett in Abilene. She was a devoted homemaker and mother who found great joy in her family, her church, her friendship and the many activities she enjoyed throughout her life. She was deeply involved in her church and was an avid tennis player, a sport she loved and enjoyed for many years.

Later in life, Rita shared a longtime companionship with Jack Woods. She also enjoyed working at Antiques and Almost, where her love of antiques and an appreciation for beautiful and interesting things gave her another avenue to connect with people. She especially enjoyed playing mahjong, was in several bridge groups and cherished the friendships she made along the way.

Rita had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued. She treasured her friends and family and was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved. Her warmth and humor will be remembered by all.

Rita is survived by her daughter Tamera Ethier (David) and her grandchildren Michael Isbel, Kaitlyn Ethier and Kylie Ethier; and many friends from over the years.
