Richard Paul "Dick" Wretman, 90, died September 30, 2008 at a local hospital. Private services will be held at a later date.
Dick was the son of Rueben Wretman and Ruth Eckstrom and was born August 17, 1918, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended public schools in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Dick was with the USAAF during World War II serving as a waist gunner on the B-17 "Dinah Might II" (452-BG). He was a Prisoner of War in Stalag 17 in Austria for one and one-half years. He received an Air Medal and a POW Medal.
He was a self-employed manufacturer's representative. Dick retired at the age of 62 and spent the following years enjoying his life on the golf course.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dottie, of Abilene; two daughters, Linda Morris and her husband Doug, of Abilene and Carole Malone, also of Abilene; grandchildren, Derrik and Cathy Malone, of Magnolia, Texas, Stacie Malone, of Dallas, Texas and Robert Morris, of Abilene; and one sister, Jeanne Goodrich, of Iowa City, Iowa. Local arrangements were handled by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
