Richard "Dick" Casey

August 3, 1934 — November 30, 2023

Richard W. "Dick" Casey of Abilene, Texas walked through the gates of Heaven on November 30, 2023.

Dick was born to Joseph T. and Ethel (Hamner) Casey on August 3, 1934, in Runnels County, Texas.

In 1952, Dick moved from Shep to Abilene to start his lifelong career of tile work. He worked over 60 years for Casey Tile and Carpet. He was well known for his ability to make every floor, countertop, and shower a work of art. Many of his repeat customers would ask for him by name and would be willing to wait until he was available to complete their job.

Dick moved to Potosi in 1975 to a home that he had spent 3 years remodeling from the ceilings to the floors.

Dick began attending church at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in 1982. There he met the love of his life Hazel (Smith) Casey. They were married in 1984. Dick and Hazel enjoyed every minute of their 39 years as husband and wife. They loved to camp, travel, and square dance. They enjoyed spending time with their ever-growing family and were always up for a game of dominos. Dick was a man of faith, a quiet, but strong leader, had a heart of gold and a sweet tooth.

They were members of the Prime Timers at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class, and the Baptist Church Builders of Texas.

Waiting to greet Dick into Heaven were his parents, three brothers, Tommy Ray Casey, John K. Casey (Monna), Joe Casey (Betty Ann), sisters, Jane Dean (Derrell) and Sarah Doucette (Ed), two sons, Rick Casey and Hal Smith, an infant daughter Kathy Casey, and a grandson Dusty Apple.

Dick is survived by his wife Hazel Casey, two sons Mark Casey and wife Melody of Brownwood, Randale Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, two daughters Debra Casey Havner and husband David of Tuscola, Rhonda Smith Tettleton and husband Clayton of Potosi, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
