Richard "Dickie" Jones, 73, of Abilene, TX, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2025 in Abilene, TX surrounded by friends and family.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2025, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home and we welcome all to attend and to share stories of Dickie's amazing life. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap RD, Abilene, TX.
Richard "Dickie" Jones was born in Pecos, TX to H.W. "Togo" and Evelyn Jones. He worked for Texas Department of Public Safety. Richard "Dickie" Jones started with the Department on December 1, 1973, with Pecos Communications as a Police Communications Operator. Dickie promoted to Communications Supervisor, McAllen on February 1, 1985, and June 1, 1987, he transferred to Pecos Communications. On April 30, 2000, Dickie transferred to San Angelo and then retired from Communications on August 31, 2007, with just under 34 years of service. On October 4, 2007, Dickie re-hired with the Department of Public Safety and began working as an in-car support technician under the Texas Highway Patrol Division and later the Information Technology Division until November 13, 2024. His overall service to the Department of Public Safety totaled just over 50 years. After retirement, Dickie rehabilitated Texas Wildlife with nonprofit Big Country Wildlife Rehabilitation Center with his wife and enjoyed many adventures rescuing wildlife.
Richard "Dickie" Jones was preceded in death by his mother and father, H.W. "Togo" and Evelyn Jones.
Richard "Dickie" Jones is survived by wife, Bessie Hollar, daughter Garianne (Brett) Hollon, daughter Candace Hollar, and son Andrew Murray. Sister Vivian (Ron) Perry. Sister-in-Law Jenny (John) Garcia and family. His "brothers from another mother" Kelly J Smith (Judi Sayler), and Mike (Shar) Culbert. Grand children Alexa Jasso (Vinny Martinez, fiancé), Dominic Armendarez, Jules Muzquiz (Marcelo), Charles Hollon, Courtney Hollon, and Natalie Hollon. Great grandchildren John Constancio and Nova Matta. And an unending list of family that wear the "Texas Tan".
The family welcomes donations to Big Country Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (bigcountrywildlife.org) as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers. The family of Dickie Jones wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Hendrick Hospice Care.
