Richard (Dick) Morris Henry was born in St. Martinville, La. to Norman Henry and Madge Ann Fournet Henry on November 20, 1935. Dick spent most of his early years in Houma, La., but moved to Abilene during his mid-teens where he graduated from high school at St. Joseph's Academy in 1953. It was at St. Joseph's where he met his wife, Marieta Fay Tucker. After high school they married in Abilene on July 12, 1955. He trained and worked as a printer for local Newspapers such as the Houma Courier, The Times Picayune and the Abilene Reporter News. In 1972, Dick and Marieta acquired Stephens Rubber Stamps in Abilene which they expanded into a successful business until they sold it and retired in 2000.
During his life, Dick had many interests outside of working to support his family which included playing sports with his family, wood working, photography, music, ping pong and golf but was most passionate about running. Dick found his stride when he started long distance running in the early 1970s as the running craze started gaining momentum. Dick was one of the early members of the Abilene Runners club and his front porch was a common meeting place for daily runs. Some of his fondest memories were training and running road races and marathons, which include the Dallas White Rock Marathon and the Boston Marathon, with the life-long friendships made over this period.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Marieta Faye Henry, his parents, Norman and Madge Henry, his sister, Margie Dill and his brother, Ray Henry.
