Rebecca "Becky" Nixon Creel

1951 — February 11, 2022

Rebecca “Becky” Nixon Creel went to be with her beloved father and mother, Harold and Melba Nixon on February 11.  Although she was battling a terminal illness, she and her devoted and loving husband of 48 years, Jim Creel, had the joyous opportunity to spend a week with her family and grandchildren in her favorite place, Red River, New Mexico, prior to her passing—a time that all of her family will forever cherish the happy memory of sharing with her.

As exemplified by her dad, Becky spent her life selflessly serving others and her Lord. She was a registered nurse in Labor and Delivery and spent a career taking care of mothers-to-be and she is the reason for many babies being born happy and healthy in Abilene.

She will always be remembered for her warmth to all those who came in contact her, a contagious smile, and a generous love of life and her savior, Jesus Christ.  Becky had a glowing pride in her daughters Hayley and Blair and her grandchildren Harper, Carson, and Parker Six and Hayden, Kelton, and Luke Smith. Forever devoted to her family, she spent many days traveling to see her grandchildren play sports. She was always the team’s biggest fan and most fervent cheerleader.

Becky was an active and a life-long member of her cherished First United Methodist Church, where her father was a lay leader and longtime member. She never missed an opportunity to travel to Northern New Mexico to spend special holidays with her family and to dote on her precious grandchildren as they played in the snow.

It should come as no surprise to those that know her that in her final days, she was surrounded by her family and her life-long best friend and fellow nurse, Nancy Meehan of Camden, North Carolina. Throughout her last days, Jim rarely left her side and was there as she passed from this life to be welcomed in her new life by her loving mother and father on the other side.

Although she succumbed to the cancer that ravaged her body, the cancer did not win because her family knows that she is now healed and whole again in the arms of her father, mother, and her Lord Jesus Christ.

Becky is survived by her husband, James Fred Creel, Jr.; daughters Hayley Six (wife of Justin and mother to Harper, Carson, and Parker Six); Blair Smith (wife of David and mother to Hayden, Kelton, and Luke Smith) and brothers Steve Nixon (husband of Kara and father of Michael and Christopher James “C.J.” Nixon) and Paul Nixon (partner of Tamara Kowalski).

In lieu of flowers, Jim and the girls request gifts be made to Hendrick Hospice Care of Abilene, or to the American Diabetes Association.

The family thanks Dr. Tony Melnyk at Texas Oncology and Hendrick Hospice nurse Nadia Rehburg for their care and assistance during Becky’s treatment.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at First United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, February 14, 2022, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
