Obituary

Philip Lee King, born May 30, 1955, the second son of Walt and Jean King in Abilene TX. He left this world far too soon, passing suddenly and unexpectedly on June 22, 2026, at the age of 71. His departure has left a space that can never be filled by those of us that loved him but his memory will be a blessing to all that knew him.

A memorial will be held Monday June 29, 2026 at the First Church of the Nazarene 2849 Beltway S. Abilene, TX 79606. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm, and the service will start at 2:00pm. We welcome everyone that knew him.

The service will be under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Phil was a man defined by a big, kind heart and his natural ability to connect with people. He had gift for making others feel seen, valued and welcomed. A true people person, he built friendships everywhere he went and maintained them with genuine care and loyalty.

Philip had an amazing mind. He was gifted and obsessed with the desire to understand how everything worked. He and a classmate, Dee Walls, took first place in state for mechanical troubleshooting, and went on to be 2nd in the nation in 1973. That win came with a scholarship Phil used to obtain a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA. Philip had many successful businesses in his life. In fact he lived many exciting lives in one because he was fearless, and driven to be successful in all that he did in this life. Phil, of Philip King Insurance, was in business for over 25 years in Abilene until he retired over a year ago.

Phil also gave deeply of himself through his involvement as President of the Elm Valley Community Association, and volunteer fire department. He was a driving force working tirelessly each year to help organize and raise funds for the main annual benefit, working countless hours with Gary Young to ensure his community was prepared. His commitment and leadership was instrumental in helping the department secure new fire engines, equipment, and a new fire station that strengthened the safety and well-being of the entire community.

Phil had a deep and abiding love for the ocean. Sailing was more than a hobby- it was a way of life for many years, and his place where he felt free, at peace, and fully himself. While living in Culver City California, he was never much more than a stone's throw from the pier where he taught sailing, making round trips to Catalina Island with every class.

Above all else, family was everything to Phil. He is survived by his wife Tammi, his beloved son Jordan, his daughter-in-law, Mia and his pride and joy grandson, Russell Lee Alexander King, 2 bothers, Neal (wife Karayln) and Bill King (wife LeAnn), sister Carol Chappell (Husband John). Phil is also survived by numerous cousins, numerous nieces and nephews also his three beloved aunts: Dolores Mosshart of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Anita King and Cherie King, both of Lubbock, TX.

Phil lived his life with an open hand and an open heart. He was always willing to help anyone in need, a friend, a neighbor, or a stranger. His selfless service to others, be it in business, volunteer work, or a stranger in need was not a performance it was genuinely who he was...
