Lorene Hollowell Dye, 87, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2008 at her home in Baird, Texas. Lorene was born in Dora, Texas on February 9, 1921 to Alonzo and Nora Mallon Hollowell. She was one of six children. The family moved to Caps, Texas in 1928. She attended Caps school and Wylie High School. Lorene married Ben Dye in Abilene on September 25, 1937. Three children were born to this union.
She worked at Hendrick Memorial Hospital, St. Ann Hospital, and West Texas Medical Center, later retiring from W.T.M.C. after 21 years. Lorene was a wonderful gardener. Her love of roses continued throughout her lifetime with beautiful rose gardens. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Clyde, where she was church secretary for many years.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Hollowell; her husband Ben; three brothers, Marvin, Howard and Preston Hollowell; and one sister, Edith Moody. She was also preceded by her oldest son, Vernon Wayne Dye and a grandson, Jody Scott McDonald.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda Joyce and Jerry McDonald, of Abilene; one son, Benny E. Dye and his fianc?e Darlene Watson of Eula; a sister, Una Boles of Snyder; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three nieces and three nephews.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park, with Rev. Mike McBride officiating.
