Paunell J. Courtney

Paunell Courtney, 81, of Abilene, passed away May 15, 2021 in Abilene, Texas.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday May 18, 2021 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday May 19, 2021 at Wylie Baptist Church with Mike Harkrider officiating.  Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m.    

Paunell was born in Abilene, Texas to Auda and Ethel Dean Jerden on May 15, 1938.  She graduated from Abilene High School.  She married Jim Courtney January 5, 1977 in Abilene, Texas.  She worked as a nurse’s aide until 1985 and 86.  She went to Cisco Jr. College and earned her Medical Assistant Degree at the age of 54 and worked in home health unit when she retired at the age of 70.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one niece.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Courtney; children, Paul Morton, Keith Morton, and Penny Morton; two stepdaughters, Sherry Courtney of Youngtown, OH, and Kimberly Maire and husband John of grove City, PA; two grandsons, one granddaughter, and six great-grand kids.

Pallbearers will be Philip Jorgensen, Les Baker, Doyce English, Scott Swilling, Terry Beal and Dustin Harbers.
