Patsy Jean Smith

1936 — April 29, 2022

Patsy Jean Smith (nee Lewis), 85, passed away peacefully in bed April 29, 2022. Pat was beloved by many, but especially by those who called her “Honey”, “Mom” and “Momo”.

Pat was born on December 23, 1936 in Peacock, Texas to Elmer Franklin and Pearl Florence Lewis (nee Cleveland). Delivered early, Pat was born just over two pounds and was not expected to survive. A fighter from the start, she defied expectations and thrived in her loving home.

Her family moved to Abilene in 1948, where she met the love of her life, James Weldon Smith, in elementary school. Their love blossomed over the years and at 18 years of age, James and Pat married on July 1, 1955.

On August 24, 1956, they welcomed their first child, Michael Weldon and on December, 22, 1963, their second son, Mitchel William. Pat adored her sons and was very involved in their activities. Over the years, their family grew as they welcomed their daughter-in-love, Patty Dooly and granddaughters, Jenni and Kristen.

Pat spent 23 years serving and blessing the lives of others working at the Abilene Supported Living Center. When she was not working, she spent many hours reading her Bible, painting, crafting and researching the genealogy of her family. Often at work in the kitchen, Pat enjoyed hosting her family and friends where many stories and laughs were shared around the table. A lover of beautiful things, she enjoyed collecting jewelry and shoes and took great pride in her meticulously manicured nails. After retirement, James and Pat joined the Abilene Sundowners Good Sam’s Club. They spent many years traveling across the country, exploring places on their bucket list.

Pat was preceded in death by her sweetheart, James, her parents, Elmer and Pearl, brothers Charles Lewis and Ralph Lewis and sisters, Dorothy Marie, Norine Irvin and Mae Fraser  and many beloved pets.

She is survived by Mike and Patty Smith, Mitch Smith, Jenni and husband Corey Williams, Kristen and husband Luke McGuffin and great-granddaughters Myka Williams, Kennedy Lewis, Alyx Williams, and Kylie Lewis. Additionally, she was surrounded by a host of nephews and nieces, cousins and lifelong friends who loved her dearly.
