Norma Jean (Jeanie) Letz, age 84, passed from this life on November 22, 2025.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM. At Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene, Texas with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating.
Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park, located at 5750 us highway 277 south, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Jeanie was born on September 1, 1941 in Stamford, Texas to the late W.F. (Buster) and Norma Tredemeyer. She attended Old Glory High School and graduated in 1959. While in high school, she was active in basketball and any other activities the school offered.
After graduating high school, she was married to Larry Letz on June 7, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sagerton, Texas. Larry was attending Hardin Simmons University so they moved to Abilene where Jeanie attended Stenograph Institute of Texas and obtained her certificate for court reporting, along with Larry receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. She went to work for Rodgers and Rodgers Court Reporters where she remained full and part-time until 1973.
Two wonderful children were born to Larry and Jeanie, Pamela Ann, born in 1963, and Steven Shane, born in 1973.
Jeanie was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church in Sagerton, Texas. After moving to Abilene, she was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the LWML. In 1985, the family transferred to Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene where she remained until her death.
Jeanie was employed with Rodgers and Rodgers Court Reporting until 1973. In 1974, she opened her own court reporting firm, Lone Star Court Reporters. In 1977 she merged with her friend, Glenda Watts, opening up Lone Star Reporters where they worked until they both retired. They took hundreds of depositions and serviced many courts. Jeanie thought she was retired when Pamela Ann graduated from Texas A&M and then went to court reporting school, taking over Lone Star Reporters and changing the name to Abilene Court Reporters. Jeanie proofread for Pam up until November 12, when she was hospitalized and helped in the business daily. Her knowledge and mentorship in the business will be missed by many.
When Steven Shane graduated from Texas Tech, she was ready to retire again, but, again, Pam had other ideas for her, so she never really retired.
Jeanie loved her family so much and enjoyed every minute. She watched tennis matches for Pam and many baseball games for Steven. She never missed a one.
Jeanie is survived by her two children, Pam and Steven. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Jennings and husband Ted and one brother, Charles (Buddy) Tredemeyer and wife Beverly. She is also survived by one niece and one nephew and many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Larry of 63 years, her parents, Buster and Norma Tredemeyer and both sets of grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Zion Lutheran Church building fund.
Pallbearers will be Randy Rinn, Rick Rinn, Todd Jennings, Doug Hall, Larry Tredemeyer and Jason Reece
