Nancy Katherine Tharp of Abilene, 80 years old, passed away on December 4, 2023, at Hendrick Medical Center South, in Abilene.
A memorial service will be held, 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 23, 2023, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Jake Godwin officiating.
Nancy was born in Abilene to Dorothy and Clark Thompson on August 28, 1943. She was raised by her grandparents, Eunice, and E.L. Harwell, and was formally adopted by them in 1962. She attended Abilene High School, graduating with the class of 1961. After graduation, she attended McMurry University graduating with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She married Donald L. Tharp on February 12, 1965, in Abilene. She taught school in El Paso, Texas, for the Isleta Independent School District for four years and for the Abilene Independent School District for twenty years. She was very involved in her ministry and loved helping people.
Nancy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eunice and E.L. Harwell, her mother and father, Dorothy and Clark Thompson, a sister, Carollyn Joyce Rickman, two brothers, Allen Don Tarrent, and Richard Clark Thompson.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Donald L. Tharp; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael, and Melissa Tharp; three grandchildren, Adria Tharp, Blaise Tharp, and Aless Tharp; one great grandchild, Layla Rain McCarter.
The family of Nancy wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Berry Moak, her primary physician, and the staff of Windcrest Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care provided for her during the last few years of her life.
