Nancy Carolyn Burks, a beloved wife, mother, and Nana entered into the arms of Jesus on Jan 13, 2026 in Abilene Texas. She was the first born of Floyd and Myrtle Chappell on Feb 11, 1939. A year after graduating from Abilene High, she married the love of her life, William Carroll Burks in 1957. Their 67 year marriage was a beautiful testament to their enduring commitment. She took great joy in raising her 3 daughters Becky, Kathy, and Sherry. She enjoyed her time spent attending many choir concerts, piano recitals and gymnastics meets.
A long time member of the first church of the Nazarene, she showed her love of the Lord by serving in many capacities including teaching Sunday School, serving on various boards, and creating a ministry that meets the needs of shut-ins. She accepted Jesus at an early age and as a wife and mother created a home that was based on the foundation of Jesus Christ in everything she did. Her faith was not merely spoken but lived out generously, humbly and tirelessly.
Known throughout her family and friends for her extraordinary hospitality, Nancy’s table always had room for one more. Among her specialties was homemade bread and cinnamon rolls which were legendary in the family and wherever she worked. She was a dedicated homemaker for many years and later had a career at Acco Feed, Condley & Co, and Davis Kinard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant brother, Tommy Jo Chappell. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Carroll, 2 sisters, Ann Fain (Cecil), Jeannie Burcham (James), 3 daughters, Rebecca Sonntag of Moore Ok, Kathy Bullock (Sandy) of Abilene, and Sherry Bluhm (Brian) of Buffalo Gap. She was Nana to 9 grandchildren: Kelly Sonntag, Holly Sonntag, Cody Bullock (Kelsey), Macy Lowman (Cameron), Jazer Bullock (Hannah), Conagher Bluhm, Garrison Bluhm (Che’), Lincoln Bluhm, McKenna Heath (Isaac), and 9 great grandchildren with 2 on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made to the First church of the Nazarene, 2849 Beltway South, Abilene, Tx 79606. The family would like to say a VERY special thank you to Kinder Hearts Hospice, and the Beehive Assisted Living for the loving care given to Nancy for the last 4 years.
