Nancy Stanley Anderson, 86, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025 in Abilene, Texas.
Her family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 22 at Hamil Family Funeral Home from 5-7pm.
Her burial will be 9am Friday, May 23 at Elmwood Memorial Park followed by an 11am service officiated by John Whitten at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, where Nancy, a devout Christian, was a faithful member for 60 years.
Nancy was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Nannie and Edgar Stanley on October 2, 1938. Upon graduation from Wichita Falls High School, Nancy attended The University of Texas in Austin where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. There Nancy met the love of her life, Andy, and they married on October 24, 1959 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She and Andy moved to Abilene, where he ran the family business and she ran the household. Together they had 2 children, Mike and Nan.
She eagerly made Abilene her home, where friends became as family, whether from Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, their Bridge Club, the Abilene Junior League, tennis leagues, their neighborhood or her children's school and sports activities. Nancy was effortlessly the life of every party, blessed with a legendary voice and ear for music, tirelessly entertaining and bringing generations together with her guitar picking and sing a longs. An avid Longhorn fan, Nancy loved all things sports. She attended more baseball and basketball practices and games, dance recitals and pep rallies than one can count, for her children, their friends, grandchildren and more. She treasured summers at the family cabin in Masonic Park outside of South Fork, Colorado where she could be found gathering neighbors on the deck or around the campfire, feeding the chipmunks and garage sellin’ on Saturdays.
Most of all Nancy adored her family, whether as daughter, sister, wife, Momma, or MaMa. Bringing her own brand of joy and laughter, she shared with her family all she loved, whether tennis or hunting, sports and games of all kinds, from bridge to children's board games. Her grandchildren always knew there was time for one more game! She instilled in her family Godly love, reliance and tenacity, which she vividly displayed as her husband's caretaker and brave, constant support during his 40 year battle with ALS.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband, James Lloyd "Andy" Anderson, and brother, Phillip Stanley. She is survived by her son, Mike Anderson and wife Yvonne; daughter, Nan Graham and husband George; grandchildren, Drew Anderson and wife Rebecca; Harrison Graham and wife Hannah; and Cate Jackson and husband Chris; great -grandchildren Clara, Owen, Peter James and Charlotte Grace; extended family and dearest of friends.
