Montie Dean Neighbors

1943 — February 14, 2021

Montie Dean Neighbors – a life well lived.

Montie gained his wings Sunday morning, February 14, 2021. He also gained a deep and full breath of Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 S. Pioneer, on Tuesday, February 23, at 2:00 pm, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Arrangements and services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Pallbearers will be Big Daddy’s grandsons: Zach Slapak, Tristan Morrow, Chaney Tucker, Bo Morrow, and Carson Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Reap and Pat Morton.

The family requests that masks and social distancing be observed for the funeral service and burial.

For over 77 years, Montie has blessed people he knew and people he didn’t know. He was a genuinely kind, giving, loving man and was always ready to help anyone who was in need.

Montie was born October 2, 1943 to Claude and Lillian Neighbors of Roby, TX. Montie played sports in high school which indicated his determination in everything he did. He never gave up. He was a proud Roby Lion through and through. Upon graduation from Roby High School in 1963, Montie attended McMurry University.

Montie worked many years at Snyder Janitorial Supply in Snyder, TX. After leaving there, he opened and operated City Janitorial Supply in Sweetwater. In 2018 he “retired” but still worked part time and at the time of his death still called on customers. He always took care of his customers and made sure they had what they needed as soon as possible.

Montie was known as “Big Daddy” by his grandchildren and friends. He is survived by his wife, Richie (Honey) of 24 years; daughter, Shannon Morrow of Sweetwater; daughter, Randa Tucker and husband, Tony of Abilene; son, Ryan Slapak of Abilene; seven grandchildren: Hannah Slapak, Zach Slapak, Tristan Morrow, Chaney Tucker, Bo Morrow, Carson Tucker, and Ryder Slapak; one great-grandson, Cooper Slapak. One brother, Jerry Neighbors and wife, Hettie of San Antonio; one brother-in-law, Rodney Reap of Sweetwater, nieces and nephews and many, many friends who loved him dearly.

Montie was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Dorothy Starr, Claudine Reap, and Betty Doan.

Montie loved the Lord and was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Montie loved his family. He and Honey enjoyed watching their grandchildren play sports and anything else they were interested in. He enjoyed road trips with Honey and took their two westies, Piper and Pearl, with them as much as they could.

Memorial donations may be made to the Roby Cemetery Association or the donor’s favorite charity. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Victor Hudman and Hendrick Hospice.

Jesus said in John 14:2 – “In my father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” Montie claimed his mansion that Sunday morning.
