Molyan Haynes

August 8, 1928 — September 14, 2025

Molyan Martin Haynes, age 97, passed away peacefully at her home on September 14th, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

A visitation will be held at Hamil Family Funeral Home (6449 Buffalo Gap Road) from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Molyan was born in Groveton, Texas, to Callie and Russell Martin. She was one of eleven children, all of whom preceded her in death. Her oldest brother, Russell, recognized Molyan's potential and made it possible for her to attend college. She proudly graduated from the University of Houston and St. Joseph’s Nursing School. After graduation, she met and married the love of her life, Jack Haynes, with whom she would share 76 years of marriage this December.

Devoted to the Lord, Molyan raised her children in the church from a young age. She was the oldest and longest-living member of First Baptist Church, where she faithfully taught 2nd-grade Sunday school for many years. Molyan was also an officer and longtime member of the Taylor-Jones County Medical Auxiliary. She was particularly proud of founding the Candy Striper Program at Hendrick Medical Center alongside her dear friend, Grace Woodruff.

Above all, Molyan loved her family fiercely. She was a remarkable role model, teaching her children the values of a devoted wife, loving mother, and nurturing grandmother. Her generosity and kindness knew no bounds, and she was a constant source of support to both family and friends. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing she is now with the Lord, reunited with her beloved husband, daughter Susan, and granddaughter Krystal. She expressed her joy in looking forward to reuniting with her parents, brothers, and sisters in heaven.

Molyan was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jack Haynes, daughter Susan Haynes, and granddaughter Krystal Haynes. She is survived by her sons, Jack (Donna) Haynes and Russell (Lois) Haynes; daughters, Cherie (John) Speer and Shelley (Paul) Hiett; grandchildren, Wade Haynes, Jason (Yvonne) Hiett, Stephanie (Brad) Grace, Molyan (Paul) Dery, Russell (Cami) Hiett, Jacqueline (Ryan) Stephenson, Dylan (Rachel) Speer, and Preston Haynes; great-grandchildren, Jack and Scout Hiett, Billie Ann Dery, Ella, Sidney, Susan, and Aiden Hiett, Jack and Luke Grace, and Johnny and Thomas Speer.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Tom and Teresa Headstream for their unwavering love and care. We also express our deep gratitude to Caring Senior Services, especially Galena, Linda, and Mary, who cared for our mother as their own. Finally, we would like to extend our thanks to Hospice of the Big Country, whose team of earthly angels provided such compassionate care in our mother’s final days.

Molyan requested that memorials be made to Hospice of the Big Country and West Texas Rehab
