Mitchel Hubbard

Veteran, Musician, and Family Man

Mitchel Hubbard, age 92, of Abilene, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Mitchel was born on February 11, 1934, in Counce, Tennessee, to Robert E. Lee Hubbard and wife Lona Lorrie Blaktney Hubbard. In 1956, he married Francis Lavern Housel. They shared 22 years of marriage and were blessed with four children: Loretta, Lynette, Jerry, and Jeff.

Mitchel proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years as a flight mechanic, completing two overseas tours. Following his military service, he was offered a position overseeing the new car service department for Oldsmobile and Pontiac, where he worked an additional 20 years before retiring.

In 1986, Mitchel married Betty Patrick and joyfully welcomed her daughters—Trina, Michelle, and Tamela—into his family. After retirement, Mitchel and Betty embraced their love of music through their band, Country Classics. Betty was the lead singer, and Mitchel played electric guitar and sang. The two shared 40 wonderful years together, and Betty remained faithfully by his side at the time of his passing.

Mitchel was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; his parents, Lester and Lona Lorrie Blaktney Hubbard; his first wife, Frances Hubbard; his brothers, Charles and Royce Hubbard; his sister, Sue; and his son‑in‑law, Mark Murray; stepdaughter Trina Reyes and grandson Christopher Lee Burks.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Hubbard; daughter Loretta Turner and husband Scott; daughter Lynette Murray; son Jerry Hubbard and wife Ruby; son Jeff Hubbard and spouse Carolyn; stepdaughter Michelle Roady and husband Art; stepdaughter Tamela Patrick and sister-in-law Alice Therrault and husband David. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, eleven great‑grandchildren, and two great‑great‑grandchildren.
