Melva Kay Welch

Melva Kay Welch, 82, of Abilene, passed away on December 7, 2025, in Abilene, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Broadview Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Wes Terry and David Cason of Broadview Baptist Church officiating.

Kay was born on October 12, 1943, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Haywood and Dorthy McFadden. She married J.C. Welch Jr. on April 8, 1961, in California. She worked for the Texas Department of Human Services for 28 years. After retiring, she and her husband traveled across the United States in their RV before settling back in Abilene to be closer to friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Welch Jr. She is survived by her three daughters: Sandi (Melanie) Welch, Vicki (Harvey) Stanford, and Mardi (Steven) Hargis; her two grandsons: Jake (Adrienne) Dutton and Brady (Abigail) Hargis; and her three great-grandchildren: Cadence, Symphoni, and Lyric.
