Mary Elizabeth Glenn, age 95, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 2, 2023.
Funeral services will be graveside at 10:30 am at Victor Cemetery in Erath County on Thursday, July 6, 2023, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Mary was born at home in Comanche County to Roy Lee Oglesby and Exa Belle Vaughn Oglesby on September 24, 1927. She attended school in DeLeon and graduated from DeLeon High School in 1945. She married George Wilton Glenn November 21, 1945. George preceded her in death on January 7, 1986.
Mary worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Barnes and Williams Drug Center before going to work in the pharmacy at Abilene State School. She loved working there but retired from Abilene State School to care for her elderly parents. She was a member of North Park Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, and by her parents, and her siblings, her sister, Norma Bell Oglesby Lutz, her brother, Roy Dell Oglesby, and her sister, Evelyn Jean Oglesby Jobe.
She is survived by her sons and daughter, Roy Gene Glenn of Harker Heights, Texas and her daughter, Henrietta Glenn, and her son, George Stephen Glenn, both of the home in Abilene where they were her full-time caregivers for the last several years.
She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kimberly Glenn of Lubbock, Randy Glenn and Mikea of Abilene, Stephanie Glenn Chavez and Chris of Abilene, Tim Glenn and Faith of Richland, Washington, and John Hagan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She adored her six grandchildren and her seven great-great grandchildren. Her grandsons are honored to serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be given to The West Texas Rehab Hospice of the Big Country or to North Park Baptist Church of Abilene, Texas. The family of Mary Elizabeth Glenn wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the West Texas Rehab and especially to Hospice of the Big Country. We are all so thankful for the doctor and nurses of Hospice and for Bernice who put a smile on her face every visit.
