Mary Helen Block, 88, of Abilene, passed from this life on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at her home in Abilene. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Charles Goodnight, officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Mary was born on February 7, 1932 in Hobart, Oklahoma to Mary (Collins) and Edward McFarland. She graduated from Hobart High School in 1950. She and Kenneth Block were married on September 16, 1951 in Hobart. Mary worked as a medical transcriptionist for the Civil Service at Dyess Air Force Base for 37 years. She was an avid gardener. Mary loved growing and caring for her flowers. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and canning fruits and vegetables. She and Kenneth moved to Abilene in 1964. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law, Lisa Block and one sister, Edwina Craig. Mary is survived by her husband Kenneth of Abilene; one daughter, Debbie Stephenson and husband Gary of Abilene; one son, Don Block of Abilene; six grandchildren, Misty Jackson and husband Glenn, David Stephenson and wife Lindsay, Stephanie Moncla and husband Aaron, Tiffany Conder and husband Micah, Chelsea Howard Block, and Kristopher West; and eight great grandchildren, Brendan Jackson, Ethan Jackson, Piper Stephenson, Lainey Stephenson, Amelia Stephenson, Blake Moncla, Bryson Moncla and Talen Conder. Family suggests memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 1165 Minter Ln, Abilene, Texas 79603. The family of Mary Block wishes to extend our sincere thanks to caregivers and nurses of Kindred Hospice and Kindred at Home.
