Mary Margret Baird

Mary Margret Ledbetter Baird, 72, of Abilene passed away Tuesday September 21, 2021. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, September 24, 2021 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Toby Frake, Russell Golden, and Jimmy Maxwell will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Mary was born October 4, 1948 in Moran, Texas to Walter and Annie (Gray) Ledbetter. She was reared in Albany, Texas. She worked at the Children's Home in Tupelo, Mississippi as the secretary, where she helped take care of 88 children. She graduated from Cosmetology School and worked one month as a cosmetologist. She married Larry Baird on December 22, 1970. She loved cooking T.V. shows and made complete homemade meals and personally visited families who were ill. Mary was a very caring person and dedicated to the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years, Larry Baird of Abilene; sons, Shannon Baird and wife Amy, Dale Baird, Kenny Downey and wife Laura, all of Abilene, and Brent Downey and wife Sarah of Lubbock; sisters Vivian Havens of Abilene and Betty Petree of Cisco; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Blake, Seirra, Jaycee, Kristian, Ian, RuthiE, Zach, Katie and Charlotte.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Baird, Dale Baird, Brent Downey, and Kenneth Downey. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the church.
