Marion Simpson

Marion Parrish Simpson was born into this world on September 3rd ,1938 in Sabanno, Texas to Turner and Ellen Simpson. He and his two brothers, Vernon and Paul, were raised throughout West Texas. After their family settled down in Anson, all three boys graduated from Anson High School. Marion remained a proud class of 1956 Anson Tiger his entire life.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1956 and served four years ending as an Airman First Class E-4, while stationed at both Lackland and Sheppard Air Force Base. He was a proud veteran and proud of his service to his country.

During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Glenda Brown. They were married in her parents' home in Abilene, Texas on January 16th, 1958. Together they built a life full of love, faith, family, adventure, friends, and travel. They were married for 67 years and celebrated their love every day. They shared a love for gardening, Glenda tended to the flowers while Marion worked the vegetable garden. They loved to travel and did so as soon as Marion retired from Lydick-Hooks Roofing. They would take off in their motor home with friends or family and logged over 50,000 miles of road trips across America. They loved to cruise and enjoyed seeing the beauty of Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii. Marion wanted to see and experience new places with the love of his life, and so they did.

Marion valued the community around him created alongside his wife Glenda and their family of 4 children, Brenda, Carol, Curtis, and Christy; built through his over 30 years as a dutiful Deacon of Elmcrest Baptist Church caring and serving its members as a reflection of Christ; and through his nearly 30 years of working from bookkeeper to salesman to Vice-President for the Lydick-Hooks Roofing company. His 10 grandchildren often teased that they couldn't take him anywhere that he didn't run into at least one person he knew. A fact that will be passed on in the many stories told to his 6 great-grandchildren.

His father instilled in him a love of tractors and tending the land while his mother instilled in him the love of growing a garden. He was not afraid of hard work and would often offer to shred a friend's field if needed, swap his deceptively "not hot at all" peppers for a friend's fresh watermelon, or be found in the backyard with family turning a wrench on a classic car. He enjoyed many years of playing dominoes with his dear friends at the Hodges Cotton Gin and his time as a basketball referee for the Southwest Basketball Officials Association. His family knew him as an expert fisherman. His father-in-law got him hooked on running trot lines, even when his children were not as excited to help with this early morning activity. He spent his life cheering for the Texas Rangers, the Cowboys, and The University of Texas Longhorns. He would even happily cheer for those other colleges his grandchildren insisted on attending.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his brother Vernon, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, his son-in-law Robert Grant, and many more beloved family and friends made through his 86 years of life.

Though Marion went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 5th, 2025, he leaves a legacy of love through his wife Glenda Simpson, and their children; daughter Brenda Grant, daughter Carol Kaercher and husband Joe Kaercher, son Curtis Simpson, and daughter Christy Ferguson and husband Chris Ferguson. Along with grandchildren; Rebecca and Jami Parvaresh, Kayla and Chris Woolums, Amanda Alexander, Brian Grant, Ashley and Carl Mini, Eric and Emily Grant, Cody and Kayla Carter, Christopher Simpson, Brett Ferguson, Matt and Katie Ferguson. Including great-grandchildren; Emma, Prairie, Charlotte, Cole, Bennett, and Samuel. He also leaves behind his brother, Paul Simpson and wife Adele, sister-in-law Carla Simpson, sister-in-law Janie Dalrymple, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He will live on through their hearts and many joyous stories.

Pallbearers include; Jami Parvaresh, Chris Woolums, Brian Grant, Carl Mini, Eric Grant, Cody Carter, Christopher Simpson, Brett Ferguson, and Matt Ferguson.
