Maria Acuna

Mary Acuña, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on June 19, 2023, in Abilene, Texas.

Memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Chapel at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Mary was born in Sonora, Texas to Jacinto and Aurora Gedea on December 31, 1944. She married the love of her life, Manuel Acuña on September 30, 1961, in Sweetwater, Texas. She was a caregiver and a home healthcare provider for over a decade. She was also active in the Catholic church for many years. Her faith and family were most important to her, and she loved people. She welcomed them into her life with compassion, acceptance, love, and a ready smile. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jacinto and Aurora Gedea, and her sister Amelia Gedea.

Mary is survived by her husband, Manuel Acuña, and her daughter Susan Acuña of Abilene, Texas; her siblings Susie Perez, Lydia Palacios, Lupe Diaz, and Jacinto (Sam) Gedea, Jr., all from Sweetwater, Texas. She is also survived by a myriad of nieces and nephews she treasured, and her closest friends, whom she considered family.
