Margie Eaton

Margie Eaton, 93, formerly of Abilene, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021, in Lubbock.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Elmwood Memorial Park with Chaplain Elizabeth Abraham of Hospice of Lubbock officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Margie was born on October 16, 1927, in Orange, Texas, to C.M. and Hazel (Lee) Featherston. She grew up in Beaumont and graduated from South Park High School in 1944 and came to Abilene to attend college where she met D. J. (Jim) Eaton and graduated from what was then McMurry College in 1949. 

Margie and Jim married on July 4, 1947, and celebrated 68 years together before Jim preceded Margie in death on June 3, 2015. Her college degree was in Business, but she returned to McMurry and obtained her teaching certification once her children were of school age. She served in the Abilene ISD for several decades.  She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Abilene.  

Upon retirement in 1991 and before moving to Wesley Court in Abilene, Margie and Jim spent 15 wonderful years at their home on Lake Coleman and often shared it with friends, family, and especially, their grandkids.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband; two children, Randall Brent Eaton and Shara Lynn Eaton Westerman; her parents, and one brother, Moxley Eaton.

Margie is survived by three sons, Chuck Eaton and wife Amy of Lubbock, Kent Eaton and wife Vickie of Oskaloosa, Kansas, Lee Eaton and wife Kay of Royse City, Texas, and daughter-in-law Paula Eaton of Fort Worth, Texas; ten grandchildren: Brent (Jordan) Eaton and Adam Eaton – Lindsey Eaton, Kevin Eaton, and Allison (Jason) Mouttet – Stephen Eaton, Luke (Natalie) Eaton, and Matt (Jessica) Eaton—Loren (Mike) Rives and Taylor (Parker) Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren: Raleigh, Malachi, Piper, Ridge, Jubilee, Blaze, Connor, and Audrey

The family encourages memorials be made to Hospice of Lubbock and/or Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat.

The family of Margie Eaton wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staffs of Wesley Court in Abilene, Hospice of Lubbock, and Legacy at South Plains in Lubbock for their tender care of their beloved mother and for providing her with a caring community where she would actively participate and share her special gifts with others.
