M.Z. Stevens

M.Z. Stevens, 99, of Abilene, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, in Abilene.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.

M.Z. was born in Jones County, Texas to Johnnie Pyrl (Matchett) and T.B. Stevens on Tuesday, August 22, 1922. He went to school in Noodle, Texas.  He married Joye Rutledge in Abilene on February 18, 1941. He worked for Halliburton and managed the office in Anchorage, Alaska before retiring after 40 years. He and Joye lived in Alaska for over 26 years enjoying hunting, fishing and camping throughout Alaska. M.Z. was in the Army Air Corp during WWII and was a radio operator on the B-29.

M.Z. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joye.

M.Z. is survived by his son, Ron Stevens and wife Gaylene of Salida, Colorado; sister-in-law, Janice Edwards and husband Dee of Abilene; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
