1928 — November 14, 2020

M.L. “Chuck” Tarver, 92, of Abilene, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 in Abilene. He was born on September 30, 1928 in Roscoe to William B. Tarver and Myrtle May (Fry) Tarver. Visitation will be Monday, November 16, from 6 pm until 8 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be 1 pm Tuesday, November 17 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Greg O. Rake. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Although he was born in Roscoe, Chuck grew up in Callahan County between Baird and Clyde, and he graduated from Baird High School. After high school, he attended Hardin Simmons in Abilene for two years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. On March 1, 1952, he married Cleta Mae Weeks and they spent 59 years together until her death on October 25, 2011. Chuck worked as an Insurance Agent for Allstate for 35 years. Outside of work, he loved to travel with his wife and loved spending time outdoors – especially if that time was spent hunting and fishing. He was gracious, kind, and encouraging, making him a favorite of many. Chuck was always a happy person and will be dearly missed by all who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Tarver, wife, Cleta Tarver, brothers, James Foy Tarver and William “Bill” Tarver, and sisters, Etta Pauline Strain Butler, and Inez Craghead. Chuck is survived by his two sons, Jerry Tarver (Glenda) of Abilene, and Larry Tarver (Dalena) of Clyde; five grandchildren and their spouses: Dory Tarver (Daniel), Jayton Tarver, Rebekah Hunt (Michael), Rachel Jobe (Jim), and Martin Luke Tarver (Kami), as well as five great-grandchildren and two on the way: Ethan, Hannah, Hudson, Noah, and Max. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Leland Tarver (Nona) of Lubbock, sister, Glyna Kretzler of Midland, sister, Elsie Mae Creasman of Fort Worth, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
