Lynda Bailey

November 22, 1945 — September 11, 2023

Lynda Lou Bailey, of Lancaster, TX, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus Christ on September 11, 2023, in Abilene, TX.

Lynda was born in Oak Cliff, TX to Fred and Florence Turner on November 22, 1945. She was the proud daughter of a U.S. Navy sailor and World War II veteran father. During her father's 30-year military service, Lynda lived all over the world including Hawaii and the Philippines. Lynda loved to tell stories of her mother sharing God's gospel as a missionary during her father's military service. After a childhood of travel, she settled in Lancaster, TX where she continued to raise her family. She was active in her children's activities, serving as a boy scout leader and band booster mom. Every friend her children would bring around, she adopted as her own. Lynda never knew a stranger. If you ever had a conversation with her, you were sure to hear the overwhelming pride she had in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. While dementia may have limited her memory, it didn't limit her blessing others with the joyful stories she would tell about her family, over and over. She was quick to offer her testimony of her walk with Jesus, the details about her career at the Dallas County Community College District, and the career paths of her children and grandchildren.

Lynda has been reunited in death with the love of her life, Bobby Lee Bailey, children Carrie and Tony, parents, Fred and Florence Turner, and sister, Jill Turner.

Lynda is survived by her children, Ken Contreras (Dawn), Michael Contreras (Tina), daughter-in-law, Audra Bailey, Bernadette Combs (Jason), and Dr. Christopher Bailey (Shelley). She is also survived by grandchildren: Ashleigh, Aaron, Nathan, Heather, Mary Francis, Bobby, Madison, Zachary, Rebekah, Noah, Carrie, Owen, Jessica, Kennedy, Eli, Baylee, and Isaac; great grandchildren: Lisette, Ariana, Brayden, Amelia, Aubree, Aveline, Aleksander, Ellee, Emiliano, Grayson and Lillian. They will each carry on the legacy of love and service that will make her proud.

A graveside service will take place at Edgewood Cemetery, Lancaster, TX, on Saturday, September 30th at 10am under the direction of Byrum's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift in Lynda's honor to The Alzheimer's Association.
