Lt. Colonel (Ret) Robin Allyn Julien

Lt. Colonel (Ret) Robin A. Julien passed away peacefully in the company of his family in Abilene, Texas on a beautiful fall Saturday, October 9, 2021.  Robin was born in Columbia, South Carolina, to Carl and Jessie Julien on July 10, 1924.  He attended Clemson University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration and a regular commission in the United States Army Air Corps in 1949.  Robin’s career in both military and civilian services exemplify his dedication to others and his family.  A distinguished 31 year military career serving faithfully through three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.  He was a Master Navigator, Maintenance Staff Officer and a Squadron Commander spanned World War II as an aerial gunner on the B24, Korea as an instructor Soran Operator, and Vietnam as a Navigator night diver homer on the B57.  His distinguished service culminated in many military awards including Air Force Accommodation, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with nine clusters, American Defense, United Nations, European Theater, Victory, National Defense, Korean Service and Korean Presidential Citation.  The last assignment at Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, Texas from 1954 to his retirement in 1977.  After retirement, he was employed at General Dynamics and then taught computer science at Cisco Junior College for 14 years.

Robin had many hobbies he enjoyed and shared with his family. Horsemanship, Hobie Cat sailing on Lake Fort Phantom, water skiing, computer science, carpentry, gardening, duplicate bridge at Bridge Center, travel and cruises.  He was in the Lions Club and was a Mason and a Shriner.  He was also awarded the Volunteer of the Year at Meals on Wheels, which he volunteered with for many years.  He was a member of the St Paul United Methodist church and Beacon Sunday school class. 

Robin is survived by his loving wife, Ruthyle N. Julien, to whom he has been married 65 years November, 2021 and three children Robin C. Julien and wife, Linnea, of Austin, TX, Jon A. Julien, and wife, Malinda, of Ft Worth, TX, and Julie Chandler and husband, Mark, of Austin, TX.  Grand Children: MSgt Monique Gann (whom he was very proud of her carrying on the Air Force tradition), husband Cody, and great grandchildren Colin and Olivia of Shaw AFB, South Carolina.  Charles C. Lambert and wife, Carra and Jon R. Lambert and wife, Carly, all of Fort Worth.  

Visitation will be held at 10 am followed by the memorial service at 11 am at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, on Tuesday, October 12th with the Pastor Steve Patterson of St Paul United Methodist Church officiating. Interment at Kearney, Nebraska at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family request Memorials be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church TV ministry or Meals on Wheels.
