Lisa Deann Jones

Lisa Jones, 38, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on August 22, 2026.

Lisa was born in Springfield, Oregon, in 1988 and grew up in Newberg, where her family moved in 1992. She was raised in a family with deep roots in the church and a long tradition of faithful service. Soon after moving to Newberg, her family helped establish the Hillsboro congregation. Their example helped shape the lifelong devotion to serving God, strengthening the church, and caring for others that would characterize Lisa’s own life.

From childhood, Lisa was creative, curious, and willing to try new things. She sang in choir, participated in theater, and played the piano, clarinet, and saxophone. Her many interests over the years included sewing, quilting, hiking, camping, horseback riding, emergency-response training, dirt-bike riding, Renaissance fairs, and a major part of her life was dedicated to the Society for Creative Anachronism. Through these activities, she formed lasting friendships and found communities in Oregon, California, and Texas where she felt genuinely accepted and at home.

Lisa and her husband, Chris, built a life together marked by faith, adventure, partnership, and service. Whether they were camping, hiking, enjoying a fire, attending gospel meetings, or working together in the church, Lisa treasured the life they shared. She was also Chris’s faithful encourager and proofreader, carefully correcting every report he wrote.

Because Lisa remembered what it felt like to be the person standing on the outside when she was young, she developed a special gift for noticing those whom others might overlook. She intentionally sought them out, formed connections with them, and helped them feel welcomed and valued.

Lisa and Chris fell in love with Abilene even before their work there fully began. The city became more than simply the place where they lived—it became their home, and Lisa was deeply proud of it. She loved being a preacher’s wife, not merely as a title, but because it gave her the opportunity to help others and support Chris in their shared work. She considered herself an active part of strengthening the work in Abilene and helping Chris continue to preach.

Although Lisa faced serious illness, she remained determined to fight because she believed there was still work to finish. She wanted to continue serving God, helping others, and supporting Chris. Even in her suffering, she looked for ways that her experience might bring something good to the lives of others.

Lisa will be remembered for her faith, determination, adventurous spirit, love for Chris, and remarkable ability to see and welcome the people others might overlook.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at 5049 Oldham Lane, Abilene, Texas 79602, with Noah Howard officiating.
