LaVerne May Trumbo, 91, passed away peacefully at Hendrick Hospice Saturday, April 2, 2022.
The family will host a visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral Services will be held at Hillcrest Church of Christ, 650 E. Ambler Avenue, at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 7, 2022. Interment will be at 10:00 am on Friday, April 8 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene for those that wish to attend.
LaVerne was born September 15, 1930 in Hayes County, Nebraska, to Richard (Dick) and Edna Graves. She grew up in that area and graduated from Wuanita High School. After receiving a teaching certificate from McCook College, she taught in a one room country school. She met the love of her life, Lee Trumbo, while he was spending time with her brother. They were married August 14, 1954, in Sterling, Colorado.
They spent the majority of their married life in Colorado, where they raised their five children. LaVerne retired from working for the State of Colorado in 1999. After retiring, they moved to Abilene, to live closer to three of their children. LaVerne was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. At the time of her death, she was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Edna Graves; her older brother, Bill Graves; two younger sisters, Donna Maucher and Wanda Kruse; younger brother, David Graves; and grandson, Adam Trumbo.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lee Trumbo; her children, LouWanna (Brent) Winland, Marvin (Rowena) Trumbo, Bobbie (David) Byrd, Joe (Paula) Trumbo, and James (Mihaela) Trumbo; her sister, Mary Ellen Hayes, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
LaVerne had a great love for her family and friends. She had a ready smile and infectious laugh. She was an avid bingo player and loved to play with her friends at Wisteria Independent Living, where she resided at the time of her death.
