LaVerne Boynton

LaVerne R. Boynton, age 86, passed away on November 14, 2021, in Waxahachie, Texas.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas 79606.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 19, 2021, at 12:30 P.M. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin Tulley of Waxahachie First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas at 2:00 pm.

LaVerne was born in Azle, Texas on August 17, 1935. She was the youngest of five children born to Gordon and Allene Reynolds. She attended Azle High School where she enjoyed cheering for the Hornets. She married the love of her life, James A. Boynton in Springtown, Texas, on August 24, 1957. She was his strongest supporter while he coached in several places before settling down in Abilene for 40 years. She worked at Sojourner Drilling for many years before fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a nail technician where she made many close friends and solved all the world's problems. LaVerne loved people, shopping, and mastered the craft of gift giving. If you were fortunate enough to be invited into their home, you would be blessed by her wonderful cooking and leave feeling like the most important person in the world, as she and James waved goodbye all the way down the street. LaVerne was a dedicated mother and took immense pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

She and James were active members of St. Paul First United Methodist Church. In 2016, they moved to Waxahachie and became members of Waxahachie First United Methodist Church.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Allene Reynolds, sisters Kathryn Bazzett and Leska Wright, and brothers Alfred Reynolds and Kenneth Reynolds.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James A. Boynton; daughter Kim Maxwell and husband Mike; son Brooks Boynton and wife Denise; grandchildren Cory (Brittany) Robinson, Stephanie (John) Simmons, Kandi (Korrey) Jones, Selah, Micah, Melody, Eli, and Logan Boynton; great grandchildren Hunter and Kadence Robinson, and Lane and Luke Simmons.

Pallbearers will be Cory Robinson, John Simmons, Micah Boynton, Hunter Robinson, Eli Boynton, and Lane Simmons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Logan Boynton and Luke Simmons. 

The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care given by Baylor Scott and White Medical Center Waxahachie, Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation of Waxahachie, and Custom Care Hospice of Grapevine, Texas. Memorials may be given to Waxahachie First United Methodist Church: 505 W. Marvin, Waxahachie, TX 75165.
