On December 23,2021, Heaven called back its angel, Laurie Denise Mikkelsen. Laurie was born on October 24, 1958 in San Angelo, Texas to Louise and Bill Mikkelsen and sister, Debra Louise Mikkelsen Levrets. Laurie was born deaf and mentally challenged, but despite this, she accomplished many things, such as competing for 32 years in the Texas Special Olympics in which she brought home many ribbons and metals. Her first being a gold medal in downhill skiing. Laurie was known for being a very creative person. She will always be remembered for the various yarn bracelets, paper crafts, Valentines, and the art projects she would make for family and friends! All these things made Laurie the fun and loving person she was, but above all was the love and passion she had for the Lord.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 5 at 2:00 at Southwest Park Baptist Church, 2901 S. 20th, Abilene, Texas.
Laurie is survived by her mother, Louise Mikkelsen, Sister Debra Levrets and Brother in Love Greg Levrets. Niece, Jill Levrets Koslan and husband, Jeff. Nephew, Reid Levrets and wife Andrea. Nephew, Wade Levrets. Laurie loved her great nieces and nephews, Makaila, Addie, Kate, Quinn, Jackson and Rylee.
Laurie was preceded in death by her nephew, Cole Alan Levrets and her father, Bill Mikkelsen.
Honorary pallbearers are Greg Levrets, Wade Levrets, Reid Levrets, Jeff Koslan, Tanner Kilpatrick, and Chance Kilpatrick.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks for all donations to be sent to Hendrick Hospice, 1651 Pine.
