L.N. Koen, age 83, died Thursday, September 15, 2005 at Wesley Court Nursing Center in Abilene. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17th, at 1:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Ried and Jack Ridlehoover officiating. Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the Gorman Oaklawn Cemetery in Gorman, Texas under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
L.N. Koen was born on November 22, 1921 in Colorado City, Texas to Lawrence N. Koen and Sarah Naomi Armstrong Koen. He grew up in West Texas and his family later moved to Carbon in Eastland County. While living there he went into the service during WWII and served in Alaska and then on to Okinawa for the US 21st Battalion Seabees. While in the service, his family moved to Gorman and upon his return home, he met and married Helen Mauney in 1946. They moved to Abilene in 1953 and L.N. was a contract painter until his retirement. He was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and the C.Ed Sunday School Class. L.N. was also involved in Good Sam's Club and was a 32nd degree Mason in Lodge #559. L.N. was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
L.N. is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-nine years, Helen Koen; son, Randy L. Koen, of Dallas; and one sister, Dee Fann, of Ft. worth; among several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
